This one is in the words of John, who emails me a brief annual report or two from around the grounds at Melbourne Park.

Was on Hisense and saw two great matches.

It has been years since I've seen seen Andy Roddick play. He was somewhat lucky to get away with that result, as Haase played well, and would have won more points had he not had his injury. Andy started off like it was another so so day at the office, instead of coming out with all guns blazing, blasting Haase and getting out of the sun quickly. He fired up a bit more in the third set. I was surprised how little Andy came to the net, and he seemed quite slow around the court.

Apart from some serving issues early in the match, Maria Sharapova seems back to near her best, all self contained and motivated. Excellent quality match. Very impressed with Goerges. She has the shots, she has power, she plays an attacking game and is not afraid to take risks. The crowd were on her side from the beginning.

I haven't heard much else around the grounds, except people are saying Tsonga is playing well.
