Skeevy Wonderful

Italy's Francesca Schiavone returns the ball to Russia's Elena Dementieva during their semifinal match for the French Open tennis tournament at the Roland Garros stadium in Paris, Thursday, June 3, 2010.

As our own Karen said a few days ago, Francesca Schiavone is a hero. She becomes the first Italian woman in the Open Era to contest a Grand Slam singles final after Elena Dementieva abruptly retired with a leg injury after dropping the first set in a tiebreak.

I predicted at the outset of the season that this would be a most unpredictable year on both tours.

So far, so good.
